APRIL 28, 2005 :: 11:54PM Best News I've Heard All Day
Jammin' to Friends on TV... feelin' excited.Coca-Cola North America announces that it will introduce Diet Coke sweetened with Splenda®. ROCK! Now when I have that rare craving for carbonation I can chug one of these babies without all the guilt. I was driving home from San Diego this evening and I caught a glimpse of a Diet Coke billboard. The bottle wrapper had a yellow accent and was in one of those sugar holders with the blue Equal packs and pink Sweet 'N Low packs. I was like oMg nO WaYz, that must be a new Splenda® version.
I took today off and went to San Diego for a couple appointments - my eye doctor appointment and an INS fingerprinting appointment. First, the eye doctor. My appointment was at 9am, the place is 5 miles from my parents' house and it was raining pretty hard. I left at 8:50 thinking fuck, I'll never get there on time. Umm, I got there in 5 minutes. I'm just so used to LA traffic, where everywhere takes an hour. So I got there and did all that eyeball testing. They had this new gadget where they took a picture of my eyeball. I got to see it up close, with all the blood vessels and shit. Interesting, the eyeball is.
The main reason I was in San Diego was to get fingerprinted as part of my US citizenship application. Before I left for my appointment, I realized that I had forgotten my green card at home in LA. FUCK!!!!!! I took a chance and went down there anyway. I gave myself a half an hour time cushion because the notice said the place is usually very crowded. I arrived 45 minutes ahead of schedule, walked in the building, and it was empty save for the bitchy clerk reading a magazine behind the desk. I filled out the required paperwork and brought it back up to her. "Green card please?" Ummmmmm.... I don't have it. :Dirty look from clerk: "Well then you'll have to wait for the INS officer to come back." Okie dokes... I picked one of the 50 vacant chairs to sit in and waited patiently. A few more people started to file in, and what annoyed me was that they all decided to sit next to me. ALL OF THEM. Bastages.
INS lady finally came, approved my paperwork and sent me off to fingerprinting. Man, those machines are high tech. The guy kept rubbing my fingers against this glass pane, and it'd show up on the monitor. He finally finished groping my digits and I was free to go. Weeee! That much closer to not needing a green card anymore! The first place I'm visiting when I'm a citizen? VANCOUVER, BC!
Man, back to work again tomorrow.
APRIL 26, 2005 :: 12:08AM Home Sour Home
Jammin' to nothing... feelin' a tad lonely.Well, I'm home. Not too happy about it either. It was weird, as soon as I boarded the plane, I wanted either to get off of it, or for the plane to fly anywhere but Los Angeles. I was hating having to come back here, but once the pilot announced we'd be ahead of schedule by almost an hour [yeah, I dunno either] I couldn't wait to get the fuck home. The plane ride felt endless. I suppose it didn't help that I kept glancing at my watch every 5 minutes hoping that at least half an hour had gone by.
So a quick recap of my trip - got into Indy a little before midnight on Friday. Pretty rainy that night but we made it back to his place OK. His buddy Andrew came along for the ride as well. We got well acquainted during the 2-hour drive home.
Saturday morning we hung out with Andrew again, then were off to Chicago. It SNOWED on the way there! Holy shit, my first snowfall experience. I was ecstatic, he wasn't as thrilled. He hates snow. Rolled into Chicago around 3PM. Beautiful city! Checked into the hotel and tried to get ready for our 6PM dinner reservations but got sidetracked. Got to the theatre early and munched on some free snacks and drinks courtesy of the VIP suite. Oh, the highlight of the evening was when I tripped over my heels and almost fell flat on my face on the stairs. He caught me before I fell all the way, but I did yelp loudly enough to catch everyone's attention. It was a hoot. Anyway, Les Miz was great as usual. The Hoosier enjoyed the show, so I'm very relieved and happy about that.
After the show we were both famished, having only eaten fruit, cheese and crackers. We had some drinks and an appetizer meal at the Irish pub in our hotel and watched some awesome live music. I love live music...
Sunday morning we checked out and did some shopping. Well, more like walking through the stores rather than shopping. I know it's been a while since I've done any real shopping but since when has EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF CLOTHING sold in department stores contain some sort of rip, patch or stain? My favorite shirt was this plain, thin-fabric white tee that was turned inside out, except it had the tag on the "right side". Seriously, you gotta be fucking kidding me. I don't know what's worse, that or the pink picnic table cloth with black and blue doodles pattern men's shirt by Burberry.
But I digress... the weather was fucking awesome. Sunny but nice, cool and breezy. The scenery was great as well. It really is a nice city. Kinda like New York without the public urination. I'm so glad we decided to do our seminar in Chicago this year. Oops, I digress again... so we hit the road home after that.
Sunday night we watched Sahara with Matthew McConasomething and Penelope Cruz. More comical than believable, but it wasn't horrible. Got some dinner, went home and watched Closer with Julia Roberts, Jude Law, etc. That movie was fucking depressing. It makes you never want to trust or fall in love with anyone ever again. But at least there were boobies.
This morning we hung out with Andrew, again, then watched Sideways. The wine movie. Man, that movie was pretty good and quite funny. I'm going to have to rent it myself. Chilled with Andrew again for a little bit but unfortunately his visit was cut short. Darnit.
As we were getting ready to leave for the airport, I realized I left my wallet in El Segundo.. err..uhh.. I mean I left my wallet at the fucking hotel!!!! Oh man, that would have been a disaster, except I did have my license on me so I would've been able to get on my flight still. I called the hotel and they have it, so they're sending it to me. Luckily I only have my corporate credit card and some change in it. So yeah, crisis averted. Off to Indy!
Indy's airport is ridiculously non-busy so we were able to wait until 10 minutes before take off to say goodbye. It was kinda sad... this weekend was great, and now it's time to go back to work and my everyday life. If I could, I'd relive it a thousand times over. Don't tell the Hoosier, but I think I'll miss Andrew the most. ;)
Ok so yeah, maybe not such a "quick" recap.
APRIL 18, 2005 :: 05:33PM Closet Space
Jammin' to Tagalog music... feelin' anxious.This weekend, I found myself laundering anything I could get my hands on. Ever since I purchased my washer and dryer, I have been a laundering MACHINE. I'm almost reluctant to celebrate because I feel like I could wake up at any moment and still have 20 loads of dirty laundry in various hampers. It was getting to the point where I had honestly given up on ever having an empty hamper. This newfound hobby of mine brought me to the realization that I have too much clothing. I had absolutely no more room to squeeze a single hanger into my closet. Not only that, but the rod was drooping quite low in the middle indicating that it would snap in half at any given moment. I went through and pulled out ANY article of clothing that I felt I wouldn't wear as often and put together a donation bag for the Salvation Army. A lot of the clothing is only twice/thrice-worn too, and I could probably sell some of it. But, I don't have the time and feel much better about donating it anyway.
Four days until I go to Chicago!! Actually, four days until I leave for the Hoosier state, and then another day before we drive to Chicago. Shit man, I haven't been this anxious about something in a while. On one hand, I can't wait for this week to be over, and on the other hand I have so much shit to take care of before I leave that I wish there were more days in between. He made us dinner reservations at this awesome-looking place called Japonais, and then we have Les Miz right after. I almost wish Les Miz started later so that we didn't have to make early dinner reservations at 6PM. Doesn't the tour director know how important we are and that he should schedule the times around us?! :p
The replacement for my old co-worker started today. He seems ok so far. Not nearly as annoying, but only time will tell. It's too bad we didn't hire the cute guy though... ahem... bad Mae.
APRIL 07, 2005 :: 09:55PM The day that wouldn't end.
Jammin' to Aimee Mann... feelin' tired.This has probably been one of the shittiest days I've had this year, and it's taunting me. It won't fucking end. I guess it didn't help that I left the office at 2:30 only to lock myself in my bedroom in silence for hours. What sucks even more is that tomorrow is still Friday, so I can't leave for San Diego yet. I really don't want to have to live through tomorrow, I just want the weekend to be here so I can get the fuck outta dodge and forget about the shit going on in my life.
I'm going on day 8 of my fucking period, and there's no sign of stoppage anytime soon. I'm fucking niagara falls down there. Yes, I know you all wanted to read that. This is probably due to stress because I usually never go longer than 5 days. I'm out of pads and have two days left on my baby stopper compact, so I've gotta make a Walgreen's run tonight. I requested my prescription online [pretty neat] and it should be ready for pickup at 11PM tonight. I could've just picked it up tomorrow, but I know I'm gonna need some pads so I might as well.
Although I'm regretting it now because all I want to do is crawl into bed and cry myself to sleep.
APRIL 04, 2005 :: 12:17AM More Discoveries
Jammin' to movies on the idiot box... feelin' meh.So a couple weeks ago I discovered vid chat, and today I discovered two things. First - On Demand cable TV. Holy shit, I may never turn the TV off. Since I subscribe to all the premium channels, I can watch any movie they have in current rotation anytime, and as many times as I want. This isn't brand new by any means, but suck ass Adelphia never offered this shit and I had been a customer of their's for way too long. God bless Comcast! There are so many movies available to me I don't even know where to begin.
The second discovery was a removable shower head. Ohhhh boy. I installed one of those nifty hand-held shower head thingies with a hose today and took it for a ride [heh]. Yes, I realize these have been available to consumers for a couple decades, but I'm a bit slow. Man, that jet stream sure is fun.
Anyway, today was my relax day and I spent a good chunk of it relearning the piano. That was definitely relaxing. Well, whenever I pressed the right keys, that is. I want to start tackling some new pieces because I'm tired of playing the first few bars of Ribbon in the Sky whenever I sit down at a piano. Today I was able to play the theme song from Somewhere in Time from beginning to end a few times. Ahh.. I love playing the piano. Makes me feel all cultured and shit. *burp*
